Day 3 Travel to Coorg @ Golden Temple, Nisargadhama Forest, Omkareshwara Temple,Madekeri Fort and Raja's seat

Madikere (at Coorg) is a well-known hill station for tourists in Karnataka. It is situated 252 Km from Bangalore. It has mesmerising mountain ranges all over with luscious greenery and the tranquil waters of Cauvery river flowing through the hilly area.

Coorg is one of India's famous travel destination and has been called "The Scotland of India" by British and also called as the Kashmir of South India.


Coorg's natural beauty, the people, the culture and their food is the major attraction which draws people from all over the world. It gives a rejuvenating feel to those who visit this place..


Bangalore to Coorg is almost 260 km and its takes a little more than 5 hours to reach Coorg by road. There are direct private and Ksrtc buses available daily from Bangalore.

2-3 days trip is advisable if you r going on a family pleasure trip.Its one of the Weekend getaways from Bangalore

GOLDEN TEMPLE BYLAKUPPE

The Golden Temple in Bylakuppe, is a home for thousands of Tibetans living in exile and a center for Tibetan Buddhism in South India. Three beautiful golden Buddha statues each of 40 Feet namely Padmasambhava, Buddha and Amitayus look down at visitors above the altar. The walls are adorned with colourful paintings depicting gods and demons from Tibetan Buddhist mythology. Golden Temple is just an hour drive from Madekeri. The main temple has three floor-to-ceiling statues of the Buddha, Guru Padmasambhava and Buddha Amitayu. Walls are adorned with intricate paintings portraying the events in the life of Gautam Buddha. There is a Tibetan market outside the monastery that sells curios, accessories, clothes and delicious steaming momos.

NISARGADHAMA FOREST


 Nisargadhama is a 25 acre island formed by river Kaveri with bamboos, teak, sandalwood trees streams and wild life covering it. Nisargadhama is a forest resort just 3 kms from Kushalnagar towards Madekeri. Its a good picnic spot and wildlife Sanctury is a most appealing part. Boating, a deer and rabbit enclosure, elephant rides, hanging bridges, in midst of a forest, greet you at this place.

This small forest is encircled by the river Cauvery and most of the people make a visit to this place for its serenity. The place has been developed to accommodate bamboo cottages for an overnight stay. One can watch out for resident birds and their nests and bamboo watch towers are made in between, to get a view of the surroundings.

OMKARESHWARA TEMPLE

The Omkareshwara temple in Madikeri Is dedicated to Shiva. There is a pool in front of temple with tons of fresh water fishes in it. The Shivalinga now worshipped in the temple has its origins in Kashi. Among the many Shivalingas in Kashi five are considered the most sacred, and Omkareshwara is one of them.

RAJA’S FORT & RAJA’S SEAT

This 19th century fort is in the centre of Madikeri and has a temple, a chapel, prison and a small museum. According to legend, kings of kodagu spent their evenings here at Raja’s seat. One can have a spectacular view from this point. It is said that Vira Raja of Coorg often came here to get a view oh his empire.
